LACET Virtual Seminar

The French-speaking LACET Virtual Seminar is a space for the development of social sciences and the humanities, particulary to promote a comparative, engaged and transnational anthropology in Africa or in relation to African questions. It is open to LACET members as well as to other researchers and students interested in the seminar. The seminar is a set up with video conference between three class-rooms (Uppsala, Ouagadougou, and Bamako). It is furthermore supported by a web-based platform for pedagogical development.

• The inaugural LACET Virtual Seminar took place on 17 March 2020 on the theme TOWARDS A COMPARATIVE, ENGAGED AND TRANSNATIONAL ANTHROPOLOGY. Read about the Virtual Seminar in French here
• The LACET Virtual Seminar took place on 26 May 2020 on the theme ETHNOGRAPHIES OF (IN)SECURITIES.
• The LACET Virtual Seminar took place on 25 August 2020 on the theme ALTERNANCE PAR LA RUE?
• A LACET Seminar IRL took place at the Institut des Sciences Humaines in Bamako on 16 Sept 2020 on the theme POUVOIRS DES URNES, DE LA RUE ET DE LA CASERNE.
• A Book Presentation IRL took place on 10 Nov. 2020 in Bobo-Dioulasso on the theme SÉCURITÉ PAR LE BAS: PERCEPTIONS ET PERSPECTIVES CITOYENNES DES DEFIS DE SÉCURITÉ AU BURKINA FASO.
• A Webinar was co-hosted by the Forum for Africa Studies and the Mande Studies Association under the leadership of Sten Hagberg, simultaneously the LACET Director, on 28 January 2021 on WEST AFRICAN DYNAMICS.
• The LACET Virtual Seminar took place on 9 March 2021 on the theme CASSER LE PLAFOND DE VERRE? as to favour debates on women in politics in West Africa. The recorded seminar are uploaded in the videos bellow. The seminar and discussion are in French.In the first clip Uppsala Anthropologist Sten Hagberg introduces the theme of female leadership in West Africa as well as the newly published "FEMMES DE DEVANT!".COMBAT DU LEADERSHIP FÉMININ AU BURKINA FASO"  in Uppsala Papers in Africa Studies 6. In the second clip Burkinabe Anthropologist Adjara Kokonbo presents case sudies from Yako and Fada N'Gourma in Burkina Faso, followed by Malian Anthropologist Bintou Koné, who talks about her research on women's political participation in Burkina Faso and Mali. In the third and fourth clip, LACET members and other participants engage in discussion and debate.
• The West Africa Conference. Members of the LACET participated in the International Conference on Mande Studies entitled BEYOND CRISIS AND INSECURITY: CULTURAL CREATIVITY, POPULAR STRUGGLE, AND SOCIAL CHANGE IN WEST AFRICA, 16-19 June 2021.
• A Webinar, co-hosted by the Forum for Africa Studies, the LACET, and the Mande Studies Association (MANSA), focused on 27 January 2022 on SAHELIAN INSECURITIES & OPPORTUNITIES.
• The LACET Virtual Seminar took place on 4 July 2023 on Security Crisis in Burkina Faso with Dr. Sidi Barry.
• The LACET Virtual Seminar took place on 5 September 2023 on Presentations of current projects and of new LACET members.
• The LACET Decolonizing Research Methodologies-Seminar on Tanzania took place on 15 September 2023.
• The LACET Decolonizing Research Methodologies-Seminar on Mali took place on 5 December 2023.
• The LACET Virtual Seminar on Women's Access to Urbain Tenure with Romaine Konseiga will take place on Tuesday 26 March 2024.
