Forum for Africa Studies' final Friday Seminar (Fredagsforsk) of the spring semester 2016 took place on 13 May and hosted Nadine Lake, visiting researcher and PhD candidate at the Centre for Gender Research (Uppsala). Lake presented her doctoral work on media and visual text representations of black lesbian sexualities in South Africa. The presentation focused on the work of Zanele Muholi, photographer, journalist and activist who documents the subjectivities of black lesbians in South Africa and advocates for their visibility and inclusion in the national narrative.

Comments by the discussant Anneli Bowie (Department of Literature) were followed by a lively discussion with anthropologists and literature scholars, addressing the complexities of gender, sexuality and their representation in the "rainbow nation".
